Hello, my name is Karen Blenkinsop and I offer a treament for ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia called Mickel Therapy. I suffered from ME myself for about 10 years, from 1993-2003, so I can empathise with you if you have that or a similar condition. I am now completely recovered and lead a full and active life. Imagine what it would feel like to return to good health, be energetic, pain free and to get your health back. I can help you to do this by teaching you Mickel Therapy techniques.
What is Mickel Therapy and How Does it Work?
Mickel Therapy was developed by Dr David Mickel, a family GP from Scotland, who discovered the important role that our “body intelligence” plays in health. His theory is that body intelligence works to keep us safe and well and to help us to be true to ourselves by constantly sending messages to the brain. Unfortunately, our “head intelligence” can ignore the messages sent by the body, because it thinks it knows better. This leads to disharmony, cellular disfunction and in the case of ME, CFS and Fibromyalgia, a malfunctioning hypothalamus.

Dr Mickel devised a series of techniques, which bring the “head intelligence” back into harmony with the “body intelligence”, leading to a return to good health. By using these techniques approx. 77% of people who start Mickel Therapy report a return to full health.
Mickel Therapy is empowering for the client, as instead of relying upon medication to mask symptoms, or using diets, or learning techniques which just manage symptoms, Mickel Therapy teaches you to listen to the messages that your body intelligence sends you, to act on these messages constructively and thus erradicate symptoms completely, returning to full health.
What Happens in a Mickel Therapy Session?
A typical Mickel Therapy session lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. In the first session I will be taking your details and a case history, in which we will focus on your life when your symptoms began. I will teach you the first of the “tools” that you need to return to good health and ask you to keep notes about using it and it’s effect on your symptoms. A significant number of people report leaving the first session feeling some relief from symptoms. In subsequent sessions, we will review your notes and I will teach you more Mickel Therapy techniques, guiding you back to good health.
Most people need 6-8 sessions of Mickel Therapy.
What Do People Say About Mickel Therapy?
Here are some examples of recent comments left on the general Mickel Therapy website by satisfied clients. You might be able to relate to the symptoms and the effects that the symptoms had on their lives:
- The power to heal yourself lies within you!The principles of Mikel therapy helped me enormously to understand why I felt the way I did. By consciously applying those principles to my everyday life and by keeping a journal of my daily habits, my health improved until I had regained my former energy levels. Keeping those principles as part of my attitude and daily habits has allowed me to continue to enjoy good health, and if and when I do lapse into former ways, I now know how to help myself. The power to heal yourself lies within you!
- Most beautiful Mickel therapy session.“I had the most beautiful session with my therapist Karen Blenkinsop, one hour shown techniques to overcome a problem I had suffered for many years – M.E, a session that was to become the very nucleus of healing that would so rapidly move me away from chronic fatigue. I am indebted to the help and continued support I receive from the Cheshire Clinic, everyone has been simply wonderful and I now have my health back”
- a massive thank you to Mickel therapy.“You’ve got post viral fatigue syndrome, you’ll just be a bit tired for a couple of months then you’ll be fine, do some regular exercise if you feel tired.” Those few ambitious words from my clueless GP were just the beginning…
Before that moment, I was a just a normal 24 year old who worked hard and had a bit of a soft spot for extreme sports & social events. Everything was just falling into place; I had a great job in where I had just been promoted, the perfect flat in central London, I was captain of my ladies Adventure Racing Team (expected to qualify for the world championships) and had started running the company rock climbing club amongst other things.
But having been used to continuously juggling lots of commitments most of my life, I suddenly felt swamped as deadlines for everything coincided at once and I picked up Glandular fever (however I didn’t know this until 9 months afterwards as the doctors didn’t pick it up at the time).
At first I just ploughed through it and got on with things, as I had always done, but soon began to realise that there was something more serious going on when I found not only was I unable to train, but I was even struggling to walk short distances.
Everything from then on had to be measured in terms of distance, the distance from my front door to the bus, the distance from the bus to work, the distance from the lift to my desk. Four months later (when I’d used up all my sick days and holiday), I couldn’t get to work at all. Then it became a question of the distance from my bed to the kitchen, and after getting a drink whether I would have the energy to drink it, let alone even carry it anywhere.
Because of my determined (or stubborn) nature, I struggled on at working from home or from my bed for another 4 months before admitting defeat. I think somehow I persuaded myself that if I was still able to work, I couldn’t really be that ill. But after 8 months of working full time hours from my bed or sofa I crashed completely.
I had slowly watched aspects of my life crumble around me. First I had to give up training and competitions, then social commitments, my London flat, my work, and even contact with my friends as it was hard to speak on the phone or see anyone for longer than 30mins at a time, not to mention that I had had to move down to Exeter where my parents could look after me because I could barely feed myself.
There’s nothing more frightening than knowing there’s something wrong with you that the doctors don’t really understand and/or don’t really want to understand. So, I spent as much time as I was able to researching M.E./CFS online and asking other people I knew who had had it for advice. Eventually, (after a year and a half, and numerous other so called ‘treatments’ and ideas) I found Mickel Therapy. I was amazed how quickly it made a difference – even after reading the book (or having it read to me in my case), I was making a substantial improvement and was back on my feet again. For the first time I was talking to someone whose theory seamed to actually make sense to me. Trevor made me feel completely at ease and I was so reassured that he understood what I was going through and I had complete confidence in his abilities. It made the world of difference speaking to someone who had been through it themselves.
I now have a long year ahead in terms of building up my fitness, confidence and muscle strength, but I have already started getting back on my bike, socialising and have even taken up rock climbing again, all be it in a more relaxed social and non competitive sense, I even went for a run around the block the other day – just because I can! :-). I’m also starting a few hours at work next week which I’m really excited about.
I have to admit, I was doubtful at first about whether MT would work for me (and about the cost while not working), but the life skills that MT has taught me have been absolutely priceless. I feel so much wiser now, not just in getting better, but in every part of life. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to do this, as I know many people have not.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Trevor Gardener, Dr. Mickel and to all the people involved in making this happen.
- At last I have my life back ..15 years ago I took a virus it affected my ears and I was ill for 3 months. When the virus symptoms left me I still didn’t feel right. I was left feeling constantly exhausted and was having panic attacks etc, I felt my nerves were shot to pieces.
For that first year I was never away from the doctors, I was getting one test after another, and every one of these test came back negative. I was finally diagnosed with M.E. / chronic fatigue syndrome.
When the doctor told me that I had M.E I didn’t believe him, and for the next year I lived in denial with my symptoms getting worse. I had total exhaustion, heavy aching legs, brain fog. I would swing from sleeping round the clock for weeks to the opposite when my brain wouldn’t switch off and i would lie in my bed night after night and only get about two hours sleep, and i would be crawling about the next day and my brain still wouldn’t switch off.
In 15 years I tried everything from herbal/homeopathic supplements and I have taken conventional medicine aswell, and I have also restricted my diet to see if that would help my symptoms, But in the end nothing worked.
I felt that I was just sitting on the side lines watching everyone living their lives.
Then I heard about about Mickel Therapy, I got in touch with Holly in February 2009. It took me eight sessions, but at last I am cured. I never thought it could happen but it did, and it is wonderful. At last I have my life back and I can’t thank Mickel Therapy enough, especially Holly’.
- All I can say is, give it a go.In September 2005, I noticed that I was increasingly tired after a strenuous exercise class. This tiredness lasted for up to 4 days at a time. I would recover just in time to go to the next one. However, I wanted to keep going as I had been diagnosed with slightly raised blood pressure and was unable to tolerate blood pressure tablets.
I finally gave up on the class during December that year. There were also a number of other issues that all came to a head during the time.
I was unable to go out and only managed to continue to look after my son, do some housework and bookkeeping for my husband through sheer will power.
I did gradually make a recovery over the next five months so that by the summer of 2006 I was more or less back to normal. However, I was always worried that the symptoms would reappear as I had been unable to discover why I had them (and neither had my doctor).
For the next 3 years I would go through the same pattern, suffer a relapse and then slowly recover, usually over a period of three to five months. However, each “recovery” left me slightly less fit than the previous one. In January 2009 I tried the far infra red sauna blanket (along with a along list of supplements) and did notice a slight improvement. Then I read the book “ Recovery from CFS-50 Personal Stories” by Alexandra Barton. There are many inspiring stories in there but I was most struck by the people who said they had tried Mickel Therapy. They stood out to me because their recovery was so quick and thorough compared to others.
I started Mickel Therapy in July 2009 and I have to say I was sceptical, but I started to put into practice the techniques I was taught and to my amazement I started to improve. I even managed to cope well with the summer holidays, which I always dreaded because I had to look after my son full time.
Since then, I have not looked back and feel as though I have got my life back. All I can say is, give it a go, you will be amazed! It also teaches you how to cope if you feel yourself relapsing. I now feel completely confident that I am able to deal with anything that life throws at me.
- I would recommend this therapy to anyone..I have suffered from the condition called chronic fatigue for over two years now. It was a long road to diagnosis as I was under a lot of stress at work (due to a very hostile working environment) and it was suggested that I was suffering from stress or depression due to this. However, the medication they gave me had no effect and my symptoms continued and actually got worse – the main ones being fatigue and muscular pain.
When I was eventually diagnosed with CFS, things didn’t miraculously get better – in some ways they got a lot worse: I was paid off from my job and I had to sell my house and move back with my parents. I found this all very hard and was at a loss as to how to get better. I was sent to physiotherapy and cognitive therapy but neither treatments had any positive effect on the condition.
I discovered the Mickel Therapy website in December 2008. Having watched the videos on the main page, I was so relieved to realise that a doctor had actually made progress with the condition to find out that it was caused by the malfunction of the hypothalamitis gland. I immediately emailed Lynda Carnochan and set up my first three therapy sessions with her. I cannot begin to explain the huge difference that these sessions have made to my health. The techniques made so much sense to me and I found them to have such a positive impact on my health. I have now been back working full time for over 5 weeks now and my health has dramatically improved. It is so nice to be able to work and enjoy my weekends instead of feeling so fatigued all the time that I barely left the house. The techniques I learnt have been so useful and I will continue to use them in the future. I would recommend this therapy to anyone who knows that there is a better life beyond the fatigue. With the help of a Mickel Therapist you will be able to seize your life back and move on to living it to the full!
