Feeling a bit jaded after the festive season? Our medical herbalist Natalia Kerkham suggests ginger tea to get your system moving again. Simply put a slice of root ginger into a cup, pour over boiling water and steep for 10 minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink to warm and stimulate your digestion.
Also why not try adding a dessertspoon of ground flaxseeds to porridge or smoothies. ‘Flaxseeds are both cleansing and nutritious,’ she explains. ‘Their soluble fibre helps to prevent constipation, and they’re also rich in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.’ You can buy them either whole or ready ground from health food shops and supermarkets.
If you need a gentle detox after the festive season, Natalia suggests trying nettle tea. ‘Nettles stimulate the kidneys to remove wastes and toxins from the body, leaving you feeling brighter and healthier,’ she says.
