Performance Hypnotherapy

Paula Cornes DHP (ACCPH),Dip (Counselling), MBACP

“In terms of playing ability there is nothing to choose between number one and 100. it’s a question of who believes and who wants it more? Which player is mentally stronger? These are the things that determine who is the champion” Novak Djokovic

How can you achieve that extra 1% that makes all the difference, that “edge” over your opponents?

Ensuring they do all they can to maximise performance, ambitious sportsmen and women access the help and support they need to make the most of their ability. In recent decades mental preparation and strengthening has been increasingly used to supplement physical training with motivational coaches, sports and exercise psychologists working more and more at the elite sports level.

Sports hypnosis combines some of the key aspects of the sports psychology approach and combines it with the power of hypnosis to achieve powerful results. First used by the Russian Olympic team in 1956, it is used under many guises, ‘autogenic training’, ‘mind conditioning’, ‘getting in to “the zone”‘ and the widespread use of ‘guided imagery’ to drive for peak performance.

The unconscious controls our underlying fears, responses, attitudes and beliefs as well as the functioning of our motor skills. These are all areas that are of critical importance in achieving our performance targets. Hypnosis allows us to work with and alter the patterns within the unconscious that perform these functions for us. Recent research has blown away the long-held myths about hypnosis and shown that the changes in brain pattern make crucial differences to the way we process information. Sports Hypnosis allows you to:

  • Overcome mental blocks and barriers
  • Use guided imagery – rehearsing & modelling success
  • Reinforce your self-belief, motivation and positive thinking
  • Develop and focus on success strategies to maximise your motivation
  • Develop auto-responses that maximise your performance
  • Control anxiety & stress & relax appropriately before an event
  • Speed recovery from injury & control pain

Sports hypnosis is designed to do for your mind what physical training does for your body.
