A well functioning lymphatic system contributes to healthy body tissue and plays an important part in the body’s immune responses.
MLD can be applied to many different conditions and is also excellent as a preventative measure that can enhance your general well being. MLD can be beneficial for the following:
- Fluid congestion – swollen ankles, tired puffy eyes, swollen legs during pregnancy, and fluid retention due to PMS
- Painful breasts
- Chronic inflammatory conditions such as sinusitis, arthritis,
acne and rosacea
- Healing of wounds, improving appearance and texture of old scars
- Healing of leg ulcers
- Post operative or traumatic bruising and swelling
My journey in Manual Lymphatic Drainage began in 1998 – I was a massage therapist and several people had contacted me asking if I could do MLD. As I hadn’t even heard of MLD, I became intrigued and looked it up online.
The only courses I could find on the search engine at the time were either in Austria or Canada so I sent an email to Canada asking if they knew of any courses in the UK. As it turned out at that point I could only do part of the course in the UK and had to go to Austria to the Vodder School to finish my training.
Some time later I got invited to be part of a bank of MLD therapists who did 3 week intensive residential treatments for people with lymphoedema. These intensives were held twice a year in the South of England.
In 2002 I did a further full training at the Foeldi Clinic in Germany. The Foeldi Clinic is devoted to dealing with patients with lymphological diseases.
I am still working as an MLD therapist all these years later and still get enormous delight in working with clients. My work is so varied – I may be treating someone who would like to receive the benefits from having MLD as a detox/relaxation treatment or I may be working with someone who has lymphoedema and in the last ten years I have treated many people post surgery as MLD helps speed up the healing process.
