Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy (also known as Colonic Irrigation) is a gentle and effective method of restoring balance to the colon. It is like a warm internal bath that deeply cleanses the colon of toxins, gas and faecal matter. It is the ultimate body detox.

When the colon is not functioning efficiently there will be a build up of toxic waste, which will have a major impact on your health and well-being. It is estimated that 80% of all critical illnesses result from colon malfunction.

A clean colon has a beneficial effect on all other major organs, allowing the body to function more efficiently.

Benefits can include:

• An improved sense of well-being
• A feeling of lightness
• Improved skin condition
• Rejuvenation of the immune system
• Relief of gynaecological problems
• improved muscle tone
• expulsion of parasites
• improved kidney function

Most people feel a difference after 1 or 2 treatments, with some it will take a little longer.
The first treatment lasts for 1.5 hours and includes a detailed consultation. Thereafter each treatment session will last 1 hour.

The treatment is safe, hygienic, and comfortable and your dignity is maintained at all times.
During the treatment a gentle abdominal massage may be used to ensure a beneficial treatment.

We have installed the latest state of the art equipment, the Toxygen BSC-UV Colon Hydrotherapy Unit, with a patented built-in multi-stage water filtration system, state of the art ultraviolet sterilizer, and one micron solid black carbon. This ensures optimum water quality, and a more effective treatment that the gravity system used by most other clinics.

For your comfort, we have en-suite facilities with WC and bidet.

The Colon
The colon, or large intestine, is a vital part of the digestive system. In the average individual it is approximately 5 feet in length, and 2 to 3 inches in diameter. The colon is responsible for many functions in the body, amongst which are the elimination of waste (both faeces as well as excretions of toxins), absorption of water and electrolytes, and the manufacture of various vitamins by 'friendly' bacteria in the colon.

Bacteria in the colon in the colon are also responsible for detoxifying many 'waste' products of digestion.

In an ideal world, the colon should be a self-cleansing organ, as should all organs within the body - provided that they are allowed or enabled to do so by their owner. Modern day eating habits, as well as stress and other factors, all inhabit this self-cleansing ability of the bowel. This is particularly prevalent in Western society where high consumption of meat, diary products, wheat, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol and tobacco are the norm, and consumption of water, fruit, vegetable, unrefined grains and other high fibre foods are often minimal.

Don't be poisoned by your Colon!

Why Cleanse the Colon?
The prime functions of the colon are elimination, detoxification, and manufacture of vitamins by friendly gut bacteria. These functions are all to a greater or lesser extent compromised in people eating typical Western diets.

When the capacity of the colon to evacuate or detoxify is overwhelmed, toxins are reabsorbed into the body where they place a burden on your other organs of elimination - the liver, lungs, kidneys and the skin. There are many possible effects of the resultant auto-toxemia, from headaches to serious acute illness. Aside from the direct symptomatic effects, toxemia places a large burden on your immune system, thus increasing your susceptibility to any illness or disease process.

Who can benefit from Colonics?
Anyone with a history of consuming a 'Western' diet, or one containing many refined or processed foods can benefit from colon therapy. A short list of conditions and complaints which can be helped or resolved in combination with colonic hydrotherapy can be found.

The importance of the direct relationship between colon health and general health cannot be over-emphasised.

How is a Colonic administered?
Water under very low pressure and controlled temperature is slowly introduced into the colon by a trained therapist. In combination with massage techniques, the water helps to soften and detach faecal matter and encrusted deposits, which are piped away with the waste water. A colonic treatment lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. New patients take around 1.5 hours. Patient modesty is always preserved

Is it Safe?
YES. All equipment used is either disposable or sterilised using hospital grade disinfectants, which destroy all known bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi to ensure no chance of cross-contamination.

Filtered water is fed into the colon under extremely low pressure (far lower than is typically seen during normal defecation) ensuring there is no discomfort and importantly no danger of bowel perforation.

The removal of bacteria from the colon also presents no problem as these propagate back to normal levels within a few days. In fact by removing old encrusted faecal material and mucoid plaque which are food sources for 'unfriendly' bacteria, colonics actually enhance the spread of friendly bacteria in the bowel.

Colonics are not habit forming, unlike chemical laxatives. So-called natural laxatives may also be habit forming. Colonics do not lead to a 'lazy' bowel, but in fact help to improve bowel muscle tone and normalise its size and capacity.

How many treatments are necessary?
This really depends from individual to individual, on your state of bowel encrustation and toxicity, and on what you wish to achieve with colonic hydrotherapy.
A course of between three and six treatments is usually sufficient to fully cleanse the bowel. Some patients will require further treatments depending on the severity of their condition. Ongoing preventative treatment once or twice a year is advisable to maintain gastro-intestinal and general health.

Are there any side effects?
Many people find an improvement in mental clarity and concentration, alongside a general feeling of well being. This is to be expected as much toxic faecal material has been removed during the colonic process. Skin conditions and allergies have often been improved in patients being treated for 'simple' constipation!

Is any preparation necessary?
No. However, being careful with your diet for the few days before and after your colonic will enhance the elimination your colonic will achieve. Ask your colonic therapist for advice about a dietary program to follow with your course of colonic therapy.
